Renewing your license plates just got easier. Beginning March 1, residents of 12 Colorado counties now have the option to renew their vehicle registration at any of 20 self-service kiosks located in those participating counties. Renewals are no longer limited to a kiosk in your county.
“Arapahoe County is proud to partner with 11 other counties to introduce cross-county transactions on our Colorado MVExpress kiosks,” said Clerk and Recorder Matt Crane. “This will be an incredible convenience for nearly 4 million citizens. If you live in one county, but you work, shop, go on vacation, or attend college in another participating county, you can use any kiosk along the way to renew your license plate. You’ll walk away with your tabs in minutes.”
Citizens who live in any of the following counties can renew their license plates at any self-service kiosk in those participating counties: Arapahoe, Adams, Boulder, Broomfield, Douglas, El Paso, Fremont, Jefferson, La Plata, Larimer, Mesa and Weld. More counties may authorize kiosk transactions for their residents later this year.

Arapahoe was the first Colorado county to launch Colorado MVExpress kiosks last year, with locations in Aurora, Centennial and Littleton. This technology has made a dramatic difference to help reduce wait times and free up staff to assist with more complex title and registration transactions.
“Citizens have renewed more than 21,000 vehicles at Arapahoe County’s four kiosks since last February,” said Crane. “By diverting these transactions from our counters, the Clerk and Recorder’s Office has successfully saved at least 1,700 service hours and 5,000 hours in wait time for customers.”
The kiosks are blue and yellow machines that look similar to an ATM. To use one, simply type your license plate number on the touch screen, or scan the barcode on your renewal postcard; then pay taxes and fees by check, credit or debit card. The kiosk will instantly print your receipt, vehicle registration and license plate tabs. Arapahoe County customers will pay a $3 convenience fee for every vehicle renewed at a kiosk, which directly pays for the technology.
If your vehicle requires an emissions test, you should complete it at least two business days before using a kiosk. If you have recently changed or updated your auto insurance, please wait 2-4 business days before using a kiosk to renew. If your grace period for your renewal has ended, you will not be able to renew at a machine and must appear in person at your county motor vehicle office.
As another option, Coloradans also can renew their license plates by mail or online at www.colorado.gov/renewplates. For more information about motor vehicle services in Arapahoe County, please call 303-795-4500 or visit www.arapahoegov.com/dmv.
