In 2003, voters overwhelmingly supported the Open Space Sales and Use Tax.That decision continues to positively and dramatically change the landscape of our County. In 2011, the tax was extended with the support of 62 percent of voters - one of the ONLY tax initiatives that passed throughout the state of Colorado.

The renewal of the quarter-cent tax secures the progress of the Open Spaces program through 2023. Since the program’s inception, the County has worked in partnership with local cities, towns and special districts. As a result of this stewardship, the program has acquired or protected about 35,000 acres of land for parks, trails and open space, created or enhanced more than 155 community parks and built or improved more than 200 miles of community and regional trails.
