During inclement weather or other emergencies, the Colorado State Patrol (unincorporated areas) and/or Sheriff's Office (contract cities) may place the county on "Accident Alert". Media outlets are advised and the status changes are posted on Twitter. During "accident alert" CSP troopers and/or ACSO deputies will only respond to serious accidents involving injuries, hit and run, DUI/DUID or when damage is so severe that the vehicles cannot safely be moved off of the roadway/out of traffic. In all other cases, people who report that they have been in an accident will be advised to exchange information with the other driver(s) and to later submit a "counter report" of the accident.
